Day One

Saturday October 4, 2014

Welcome to Sicily.

We will meet you at Catania Fontanarossa International Airport in the afternoon. Our touring bus will take us to Taormina, a charming little Sicilian town. It sits high above the Mediterranean Sea, and provides a gorgeous view of Mount Etna, Europe’s largest active volcano.

We will have a traditional dinner featuring some local specialties. During the meal we'll discuss what expect in the coming days of our tour and answer all your questions.

Day Two

Sunday October 5, 2014

After breakfast we will drive to Bronte for the “Sagra del Pistacchio” It is the occasion that the city offers to its many visitors to let them know the refined "gold of Bronte". The highlight of the Feast is the tasting of the fruit and of the pistachio related products that go from sausages to pistachio pastry, from sweets to ice cream, and lots of other delicious things. After lunch we will return to Taormina to free time in the afternoon. Dinner in a local Pizzeria in Taormina to taste the authentic Italian pizza.

Day Three

Monday October 6, 2014
Mushrooms Hunting on Mt. Etna early in the morning with an expert and lunch in a typical Etna restaurant specializing in mushroom preparations. We will then spend the afternoon cooking under the guidance of a professional local chef that will work with our group to prepare a traditional Eastern Sicilian meal. Dinner to follow based on your efforts.

Tuesday October 7, 2014

Visit to the famous fish market in Catania, “La Pescheria”, located next to the Piazza del Duomo, in the heart of the city. You will never see a fish market like this. It's amazing, you can see all the fish and seafood you can imagine, of all sizes, in all colors and shapes. The variety of fresh, alive fish is stunning, and you’ll get a chance to see the locals choosing the best for their homes or restaurants. Many fish varietals are exclusive to the Mediterrenean, so expect to see grey mantis shrimp along with alive octopi! It is a wonderful show of colors, smells and sounds.

We will then transfer to a local  pasticceria, the pride and joy of every Sicilian- pastries are taken very seriously in Sicily, and we’ll get a chance to watch a pastry-making demonstration and enjoy the classic “Granita with Briosche” or an “Aperitivo”.  

We will have some free time in the afternoon to explore and shop the wonderful city of Catania and we will head to the charming town of Acitrezza for dinner.

Day Five

Wednesday October 8, 2014
We will start the day with a cheese-making demonstration at a traditional cheese making facility. Based on availability we might see the fresh ricotta being made, or the base for one of the many delightful Sicilian cheeses. Lunch at the “Feudo Delizia” restaurant, the pride of the town of Belpasso, where you will taste a wide range of Sicilian specialties. We will then spend the afternoon wine tasting in a winery located at the base of Mt.Etna and get a taste of the very original wines derived from grapes being planted on the volcanic soil of Sicily. Dinner in a local trattoria.

Day Six

Thursday October 9, 2014

We will leave behind Taormina and head toward the Baroque town of Noto, a Unesco world heritage site and the location for Antonioni's film “L'Avventura”. The rural location of Noto will enable us to explore the local farms and culinary traditions, and we’ll take advantage of that by staying in a local agriturismo.
We will spend the day cooking, exploring and enjoying the town and its many beauties, as well as its unique rustic flavors.

Day Seven

Friday October 10, 2014

A day to delight the senses. Visit the charming town of Modica for a demonstration and tasting of the traditional methods of making Modicano chocolate in an historic sweet shop. Cooking class with chef Ciccio Sultano, one of Sicily's most acclaimed chefs and the only one with two Michelin stars. Lunch at his small elegant restaurant Il Duomo, where he delivers simple chic cuisine. Return to Noto in the afternoon, you will have some free time to complete your last minute shopping before we meet for our farewell dinner to mark the end of this amazing Sicily tour.

Day Eight

Saturday October 11, 2014

After breakfast, (time to be determined) the bus take you to the Catania Fontanarossa International Airport for your return flight to a gateway city.
